Two Tips To Help Keep Your Sewing Machine In Good Condition

Posted on: 1 April 2016

If you own a sewing machine, it's easy to use it relentlessly until a real problem shows up.  However, much like with other household appliances and devices, there are practices you can perform that will help you avoid the major problems that can occur with your sewing machine.  Use this information to learn more about what you can do on a regular basis to help keep serious sewing machine issues at bay.

Get Regular Tune-Ups

One of the best things you can do for your sewing machine is take it to a repair shop to have it tuned up.  This helps to restore the timing of your instrument back to the factory settings, and you may find that you have a better output.

During the tune-up, the service professional will perform many different actions.  They will likely open up your sewing machine and do a thorough cleaning.  You may be completely unaware of the amount of dust and lint that has built-up in your machine, and this could be causing it to work incorrectly.  If you've had your machine for some time, or if it's been in storage, it is even more important for this deep cleaning to take place, since there could be broken thread, bugs or even mice hiding out in the internal parts of your sewing machine.

The service technician will also oil each part of the machine, which facilitates movement so you won't have to deal with those frustrating starts and stops that can occur when your machine isn't well-oiled.

Avoid Sewing Over Pins

Sewing over pins is a bad idea for several different reasons.  Not only is it harmful to your sewing machine, but it could also cause you injury as well.

When you sew over pins, your needle gets dulled prematurely.  You may find that your stitches aren't as tight, or that your needle gets repeatedly stuck in the fabric.  If the needle comes into contact with one of the pins and breaks, the broken tip could fly out sporadically and hit you in your eye or some other part of your body.

Make it a practice to always carefully pull out the pins before running your stitches so you can keep your needle intact for as long as possible.

Caring for your sewing machine doesn't have to be difficult if you know what to do.  Start practicing these tips right away so you can experience the joys of sewing with your machine for the long haul. Should something happen to your machine, talk to a sewing machine repair expert to prevent further damage.

Got a Boring Pool? Spice it Up With Pool Remodeling!

When I bought my home, I was excited to be buying one with a pool. However, after a couple of years that excitement had faded. I didn't use the pool as often as I would have liked and it wasn't the entertainment hit I thought it would be. I knew the pool was plain and generic looking, but I figured a pool was still a pool. After going on a tropical vacation with my girlfriend, we decided that we wanted to recreate the tropical look of the resort pool in our own backyard. We thought this would really spice up our pool and bring in new life. Thanks to pool remodeling, our pool is beautiful and all of our family and friends love to relax in our backyard. Many people are unaware of how a pool can be transformed, so I created this website to help open your eyes.
